Facebook Timeline // Rethinking Brand Pages

The launch of Timeline, Facebook’s revamped user profile, brings more branding opportunity to Marketers and Designers who wish to target its vast network of users. A whole host of updates, if leveraged correctly, could provide advertisers with a more sophisticated platform to tell a more engaging brand story. Some noteworthy new features include the large image area at the top of the page that can be customized with a picture or promotion and the infinite scroll that prolongs the lifespan of content. With the design of Timeline, brands now have additional customizable space to work with and more freedom to create a unique brand page with a better user experience for its fans.

Canon Technicolor CineStyle

On April 5th 2011, Technicolor announced a strategic partnership with Canon USA to create a suite of creative tools for cinematographers using Canon’s video-capable DSLRs. The first release was the “CineStyle” Picture Style for the EOS system, which was announced at the 2011 NAB Conference in Las Vegas. Here is a excerpt from Technicolor’s CineStyle webpage:

“The Technicolor CineStyle provides better dynamic range of the captured content. This allows for greater artistic freedom during shooting (as the look does not have to locked in during shooting) as well as during the color correction process in postproduction. Acquisition with Technicolor’s CineStyle will generate what appears to be a flat, de-saturated looking image. While this image may appear unappealing and undesirable, it is in fact an ideal starting point for post-production and color correction.”

Below is an example of what the Technicolor CineStyle Picture Style for the Canon EOS system can accomplish. The original shot is straight out of the camera and the overlay is after the recommended S-Curve Look Up Table (LUT) is applied to the footage.

Video Interviews

Over the course of the past four years now, the imagery group has been using video to capture the thoughts of associates for everything from top-level corporate communications to personal tributes for long-standing retirees of the company. As Daymon Design continues to move forward with regards to technology and media with the advent of DSLR video, I thought it would be an apt time to have a brief retrospective that highlights our range as well as how far we’ve come.

2011 ECRM Video Recap

As part of Daymon Design’s involvement in the 2011 ECRM: Private Brand Foods and Meal Solutions EPPS, we were tasked with creating a video recap to accompany an article which, together, would summarize the success of the event and the impressions gained by its attendees. To accomplish this, Chris Powell and I spent our time at the event recording the general session keynotes, taking both candid and location photos and footage, and documenting the thoughts of the event’s participants in video interviews. The final piece shows off some of the more interesting shots we captured as well comments regarding the event and Daymon’s involvement.

In-Store Sales Begin at Home

Great article on a topic that’s been near and dear to our hearts for years now! As we’ve seen so many other industries adapt their selling message and strategies to embrace online browsing and review – our primary grocery clients have been waaaaay too slow to adjust and capitalize on this new consumer decision-making process. Maybe more industry press will help them to move!
