Only Image I Can Think About This Week

Usually I talk about Images that show whats going on in the Imagery & Digital Teams world. This week though, when I thought about what Image to share, the one that kept coming to me was that of Steve Jobs.

The Photographer

I came across a story on PetaPixel’s blog. It was about the photographer Albert Watson, who took the above picture of Steve Jobs, titled “The Story Behind Albert Watson’s Portrait of Steve Jobs”. He talks about what it was like working with Steve Jobs & how he captured this now iconic picture. I recommend reading not only PetaPixel’s story but the links off their story. As well as checking out Albert Watson’s site & his photography. I will also include a link to a commencement speech Steve Jobs gave in 2005 at Stanford University. Many have probably seen this but it’s worth watching again. If you haven’t, then you must!

The Effect

I was surprised how much Steve Jobs passing effected me this week. I won’t claim to speak for all designers but I can’t help but think, some may feel the same way. Steve Jobs played a huge part in the way designers work. Even with the Adobe software that is our life. (click here for another great little story about that). My design career started in college, on a Apple Macintosh SE/30, which only had a B&W screen. Many creative careers involve a Macintosh & Steve Jobs. If your in the creative field chances are you’ve spent many an hour sitting in front of a Macintosh computer. I guess it’s no surprise the loss of Steve Jobs would evoke emotion on some level.

Daymon Design’s Macintosh History

I’ll wrap up by tying this back to Daymon Design’s world. Here is a line up of the Macintosh computers that have been a part of our design group going back roughly 15 years. I know some of the Daymon Design staff can take this back even further, so I’d encourage them to post comments about the memories of their first computers as a designer, how the times have changed. Even their memories of Apple, Macintosh & Steve Jobs. Maybe we’ll even collect our comments & pass them onto to Apple’s “remembering steve” email address.

I also dug up some pictures showing a few of these computers in their natural habitat out on our design studio’s floor. Enjoy!

  1. Steve Job and his products were a daily reminder to me to dream, question, push, and inspire best I can.
